On the morning of July, 3rd, when Cui Shigang, member of Nansha Standing Committee and director of Nansha Organization Department, Tian Yi, vice-director of Nansha NPC Standing Committee beat the big gong, the ten-day “2008 Nansha Litchi Tourism and Culture Festival” started in Nansha Tianhou Palace—Coastal park, it was also the earliest litchi culture and tourist activity.
On the opening ceremony, Zhong Huaying, member of Standing Committee and director of Publicity Department, made the opening speech. It was said that the litchi production in Nansha reduced by 80% and the price was higher than that of last year because of rainstorms and typhoons.
The organizer mixed this festival with the activities of establishing national civilized cities and greeting Olympic Games. During the festival, i.e., from July 3rd to 13th, there was special farmhouse food festival, special farm products of Nansha, photo shows of the changes of Nansha since the Reform and Opening and of the activities of establishing national sanitary and civilized city. At the weekend, there will be mountaineering activities in Huang Shanlu Forest Park, football games, basketball games, earthbag throwing, rope skipping, chasing in Puzhou Park, bicycle race around the lake or above water in Coastal Park.
After the opening ceremony, the sports team composed of leaders of the zone, government officers, farmers, students and townspeople began the long-distance running around Coastal Park under the slogan of “Greeting Olympic Games, Cheering China on”.
