On July 9^th, 2008, Guangdong Nansha Export Processing Area passed the inspection of General Administration of Customs, National Development and Reform Commission, etc. Wan Qingliang, vice-governor of Guangdong province, Liu Xiaojie, vice-secretary of the provincial government, Wu Yimin, deputy mayor, Tang Hanghao, vice-secretary of the city government, Xi Zhi’an, director of Guangzhou Customs and Luo Zhaoci, head of Nansha Development Zone attended the issuing ceremony of the inspection certificate of Guangdong Nansha Export Processing Area. Leaders of Guangzhou Customs, Panyu Customs, Guangdong Inspection and Quarantine, Nansha Inspection and Quarantine, Guangdong Development and Reform Commission, Provincial Financial Bureau, Provincial Land Bureau, Guangdong Foreign Trade and Economic Bureau, Provincial State Taxation Administration, Provincial Administration of Industry and Commerce, Guangdong State Administration of Foreign Exchanges, Municipal Port Authority, Municipal Development and Reform Commission, Municipal Financial Bureau, Municipal Land Bureau, Municipal Foreign Trade and Economic Bureau, Municipal State Taxation Administration, Municipal Administration of Industry and Commerce, Nansha Development Zone, over 70 people attended the inspection and accompanied the inspecting organization members to inspect the first phase constructing project of the Processing Zone.

Guangdong Nansha Export Processing Zone is located at the Wanqingsha Town in Nansha Economic & Technology Development Zone (in the National Economic & Technology Development Zone). It was approved by the State Council on June 3rd, 2005 and the construction of infrastructure facilities was completed according to the Customs. It would receive the pre-inspection of Guangzhou Customs in March and the official inspection of ministries and commissions of General Administration of Customs in September. After that, it will become the third officially operated National Export Processing Zone in Guangdong.

The establishment of Guangdong Nansha Export Processing Zone in Nansha Economic & Technology Development Zone will increase the comprehensive functional advantage of Nansha Development Zone and have active effect on introducing more enterprises and projects which had large amounts of assets, good market prospect, long industrial chain and big driving effect, developing powerful big industry economy and park economy, constructing important and advanced manufacturing bases in Pearl River Delta. Guangzhou Nansha Park Zone and Guangzhou Nansha Bonded Logistics Center, adjacent to Guangdong Nansha Export Processing Zone were developing rapidly and their harmonious and mutual development had important strategic significance to enhance the opening image of Nansha, even of Guangzhou, to tamp the opening function, to increase the opening vigor and to push forward the development of the open economy.

Guangdong Nansha Export Processing Zone has a total area of 1.36 square kilometers. The first park has 0.83 square kilometers with the municipal infrastructure facilities of all relevant utilities connections and site formation (i.e. utilities connections for water, drainage, gas, power, heat/cool air, telephone/data and road), Customs, Commodity Inspection Bureau, banks, transportation center and warehouse. All the enterprises settled here have no need to go out to handle the import and export procedures. The Processing Zone also enjoys the preferential policies enjoyed by National Export Processing Zones and Economic and Technology Development Zone. Now, the first park has invested 350 million RMB, constructed office blocks of inspecting units and management commission, built 9545 meter-long roads and over 4000 meters enclosing wall which is 3.2 meters high ,permanent, uninterrupted and fully closed. It has also built a 1490㎡ inspecting warehouse and a 8350㎡ field for goods examination.

Guangdong Nansha Export Processing Zone followed the principle of building while attracting business. Four foreign-funded enterprises, such as Idemitsu Kosan Co.(Japan) and Hitachi Power Tools have settled here. There are 5 projects on discussing. It will attract business in industries like IT, photoelectricity, precision machine and household appliance, and introduce a batch of projects and enterprises with high-tech content and strong market competitive power, thus make Guangdong Nansha Export Processing Zone a real base of processing trade , a platform of modern logistics and a window for opening to the outside world.

Guangdong Nansha Export Processing Zone passed the inspection of nine State Ministries and Commissions and gained the inspection certificate, which marked the establishment of a new platform of Guangdong’s opening to the outside world and created excellent conditions to encourage Guangzhou, even Guangdong’s processing trade to transit from a separate form to a relatively centralized management and to provide a better investing and operating environment for enterprises.
